spirit is no longer worthless [arcane]

so... the Pyromaniac talent will instead of reducing mana cost (1% per talent) will be giving 10% (per talent) mana regen while casting. this makes spirit not useless. this effectivly balances the amount (mages suffer the most since we have the lowest base mana of any class) of mana regen we lose from the paladin mana regen nerf from 1% max mana to 2% base mana.

does spirit help our dps? on short fights, not even a little. on long fights? yep, we have more effective manapool :)

on a side note, if we can double dip (why not) we can put points into arcane meditation (30% mana regen while casting) glyphed mage armor (50% mana regen while casting), and student of the mind (10% more spirit), that would give mages 110% mana regen while casting (lol) with 10% more spirit.

making this build

ideal to stack haste with (common, who doesn't think 110% mana regen while casting is the coolest thing ever?)

edit, those talents were changed, fire/frost mages get no benefit from spirit

It's the thought that counts, not how many people die because of it.

answer, not yet. however, when 3.0.8 hits, the mana gen we are getting from other classes is getting nerfed to shit. 1% of my max mana is 190 (raid buffed) while 2% of my base mana is 66. so the mana regen i'll be getting is 1/3 from pallies. also, that firebuild i listed is much less mana efficient than frostfirebolt. so, in a 25 man, mana regen isn't an issue. however in 5 mans (and 10 mans) i go oom in under 5 minutes. so.. with that build, even with molten armor up, i'll be getting 60% mana regen while casting (its obsurd, i know)

elven, totw for 12% more damage from fireball (the nuke in this build). thunderclap will allow totw in 3.0.8. ( i failed to mention that) thus not needing a slow slave mage. thats 12% more damage to fireball is worht more than living bomb.
