T8 content: gear, talents, fun (ULDUAR)

Post by Gnomerman » Mon May 04, 2009 11:28 am

im a little late on this, but mages didn't change much at all.

Itemization has changed a little, we, as mages, no longer hate spirit. we enjoy it less than most of our other stats.

talents dps rankings. If you want the actual numbers, EJ has it all
1- Fireball/torment of the weak ~400 dps lead

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#of0Vcd0c ... hct:VLio0z

2- Frostfire bolt~ 400 dps ahead of arcane

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#oZfVcbRh ... coc:ILio0z

3- Arcane~still ahead of frost.

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#ofoVcu0I ... c0o:NzMo0z
(there are some things you can do to shake that up...)

4- Frost

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#of0fck0c ... fRx:RqGo0z
(but its sooo ugly, and meh... this is max single target, and you'd need an ICBM to catch up cuz its soo far away behind)

that is for single target dps. i'll post talent builds later, but they are essentially unchanged.

gear. for fire or frostfire bolt (they both gear identically, fireball favors sp and haste more than ffb)

the best in slot gear for non hard modes is as follows

[Collar of the Wyrmhunter]
[Wyrmrest Necklace of Power]
[Conqueror's Kirin Tor Shoulderpads]
[Pennant Cloak]
[Conqueror's Kirin Tor Tunic]
[Bracers of Unleashed Magic]
[Conqueror's Kirin Tor Gauntlets]
[Sash of Ancient Power]
[Conqueror's Kirin Tor Leggings]
[Sandals of Rash Temperament]
[Signet of Manifested Pain], [Pyrelight Circle]
[Scale of Fates], [Eye of the Broodmother]
[Runescribed Blade], [Ironmender]
[Scepter of Lost Souls]

i'll post the hard mode 25 mans a little later (read when we start working on them)

so... take raiding seriously, pay attention to what your doing, and be prepared for something that is a challenge.

Since the talent tree wipe I've been holding off respec'ing Lemondrop. I'll take a look at the talent trees once they're posted.

On the first spec, Fireball/TotW, what is the basic rotation?

I see that TotW gets its bonus only when the target is snared/slowed. Does that include Thunder Clap from warriors? Or does there need to be a separate debuff on the boss to get the dps increase?

thunder clap, and all debuffs like it apply the TotW effect.

the basic rotation is the following priority.

Living bomb
scorch stacked to 5x (if there is no lock applying the sb debuff)
hot streak pyro
fireball to fill

main nuke is fireball.

if the fight will last more than 20 secconds, living bomb, scorch to 5x debuff, then fireball and pyro when hs procs. refresh living bomb every 12 secconds and scorch every 30.

if there is a warlock is applying the debuff, ignore scorch.

in a short fight (20 sec or light) just fireball spam.

its worth significantly less than 3% more spirit. raid buffed you are already over 50% crit chance, and 10% more crit each cast has a very small return, considering its once every 3 minutes. its only useful in low crit environments... less than 25%
