Nub help with macros!

Post by amanierlyn » Tue Apr 01, 2008 8:38 am

I am in need of macro help.. Specifically affliction lock macros that may help .. I only use a few very simple macros atm, and am very new to them. I know that the target and or focus macros are usefull in raiding -just wanted to get some advice on macros that guildies use most, and any aff locks in the guild that use macros for casting. I have read the macro forums, but some of them dont make a whole lotta sense -
Do other locks use (macro for banishing)

/target focus
/cast banish
/targetlasttarget

just a macro I found on the forums ???
Any help will be appreciated ,,, thanks Amy :-)

Oddly, there's a thread in our very own Macros forum entitled "Macro Assistance Thread", written by yours truly. The topic of focus (and other macros) is covered quite extensively there.

To address your specific question, though, the way you wrote that macro should be posted as a perfect example of how you are not supposed to use focus. You're completely missing the targeting conditionals that were made available in 2.0.

Here's the canonical way to write that macro:

Code: Select all

/cast [target=focus] Banish
This casts Banish on your focus without changing your current target. That's the whole reason focus exists in the first place. Of course, this example is very simplistic and omits a lot of things that will make it more efficient.

See my thread for additional, very detailed examples of CC macros using focus. Feel free to ask any questions you like.

Amy the macro you want is here:

Code: Select all

#showtooltip Banish
/focus [mod:alt,target=focus,noharm][mod:alt,target=focus,dead]
/clearfocus [target=focus,noharm][target=focus,dead][mod:shift]
/cast [mod:alt,target=focus,exists] Banish; [nomod] Banish
Instructions on how to use it can be found here
It's the thought that counts, not how many people die because of it.

here's a list of the macros in the nihilum warlock raiding guide:
The only macros useful in 25 man raids are focus banish/cot macros and stone management macros, not much science here.

CoT focused
/cast [target=focus] Curse of Tongues(Rank 2)

Banish focused
/cast [target=focus] Banish(Rank 2)

Use all ranks of healthstone, this one is science
/Use Master Healthstone

Stopcasting macro
/stopcasting
/cast Shadow Bolt
as far as macros go, the warlock specific ones i use are shadowbolt stopcasting, master HS, and seduction.

you can find some macros and links here: viewtopic.php?t=2724

warlock's den appears to be the most recent post

there's no need to stopcast spells as of 2.3.2

Hey, folks. Don't pluck macros from random people's forums (even if they are Nihilum). 95% of the time, they are either misconceived, out of date, or just plain wrong.

My preferred CC macro is as follows:

Code: Select all

#showtooltip
/focus [mod:shift]
/clearfocus [target=focus,noharm][target=focus,dead]
/cast [target=focus,harm,nodead] [] Spell
Substitute "Spell" with whatever your spell is and voila. Hold shift to set your focus; that cast and any subsequent cast will be on your focus until it dies or despawns.
