Help!

My computer is connecting to the internet, but it isnt sending or recieving any packets, and it isnt picking up an IP address. I can't do a windows system restore, it figured out a way to block that too.

Ive tried everything I know.. Ive googled and found out everything else people know. My next step is to reinstall everything, but before that I figured I could ask you guys..

I'm assuming its some kind of virus, although non of my malware, antivirus is picking anything up.

I tried manually system restoring, getting new anti-malware, anti-virus. Uninstall then reinstalling my NIC. Im really just trying anything at all. ip release/renew.

So if you know of anything I can do, or have heard of this happening let me know!

First thing I would grab, if you don't have it already is it'll let you see which processes are actually running on your machine.

Figure out whats running, boot up in safe mode (if you can) and nuke it.

Viruses like to hide in your system restore so make sure you disable system restore when you're trying to kill this thing.

Delete the hard files, then go through regedit and nuke any trace of the thing.
It's the thought that counts, not how many people die because of it.

Why would a virus block your Internet connection? They want your computer alive and sending spam, not dead and useless. Unless you picked up some really old crap.

If you questions something, google it. There used to be a website that you could search any process and it would tell you what it was, but I don't know it off the top of my head.

Edit: Or just listen to EB and ignore me.

In my few experiences with the PC not obtaining an IP but yet connected to the internet, its been the modem acting up. But I'm sure you reset it by the reset button (if it even has one) and done the unplug for a few minutes thing then reseting the router as well. Other than that I'm not so sure. If it's a virus...Sorry and good luck. hahaha...

However, I don't know what OS you are using, but if you are still using XP try . It repairs settings caused by buggy or improperly-removed internet software.
Shhh! Theres a dead horde in my trunk. Wanna see it? Fuck around and you'll be it.

Did you get a letter from your ISP about you running a spam or porn business from your home? Or perhaps on your nasty little habit of d/l movie torrents? (RIP Pirate bay...)

Certain viruses block port 80 (what internet browsers use), and other commonly used ports while still distributing themselves via other ports that it leaves open. It's not at all uncommon for them to block ur internet connection.

True but they can't transmit if the network won't assign them an IP address because DHCP failed.
